New Late-Summer Open Ring Hours in North Austin
We're opening up additional floor time and expanding youth coaching slots at our North Austin gym to help strikers and young athletes finish late summer strong.
As August heat peaks across Central Texas, keeping your training consistent comes down to having access to the right environment at the right times. Whether you are aiming to log extra rounds on the focus mitts, refine your footwork away from structured class times, or get your kids active before the school year ramps back up, we have fresh news from the fight room floor.
Starting this week, Unity Combat Club is rolling out expanded floor access and adjusted youth scheduling at our facility in North Austin. Here is everything you need to know about what is changing, why we are adding these blocks, and how you can take full advantage of the canvas this season.
Expanded Open Floor Access for Self-Directed Rounds
One of the biggest requests from our active strikers and grapplers has been more unanchored mat and ring time. While coach-led technical instruction is essential for building real fight IQ, having hours to shadowbox, work footwork patterns, or review film-study drills at your own pace cements those mechanics.
To accommodate this, we are officially expanding our designated Open Ring/Gym blocks. These extended sessions give you the room to put in extra bag work, drill light defensive escapes, or work mobility without competing for floor space during peak class hours.
Whether you are dialing in your jab mechanics from Boxing Fundamental or honing your clinch breaks, having access to an open floor surrounded by serious, respectful training partners makes all the difference.
Back-to-School Expansion for Kids Combat
With late summer transitioning directly into back-to-school routines, parents throughout North Austin have been asking for more flexible afternoon athletic options. Combat sports offer kids a unique combination of core athleticism, functional self-defense, and genuine discipline—without the high-pressure ego found in conventional team sports.
In response to growing headcounts, we are introducing extra late-afternoon time slots for our Kids Combat program. Designed for ages 6 to 12, these coach-led 60-minute sessions blend foundational Muay Thai striking and MMA positional control in a strictly supervised, safety-first environment.
Our coaches treat young practitioners like real fighters in training—focusing on hip torque, stance balance, footwork, and personal accountability. Building these physical habits early translates directly to better focus and confidence both on the mat and in the classroom.
Hydration and Climate Protocol for August Sweats
Training hard in an Austin August means managing temperature and fluid loss, even in an air-conditioned room. As intensity ramps up across our new open floor blocks, keeping your body operating at peak efficiency requires intent.
According to youth sports performance research from Scottish Rite for Children, young athletes and active combat practitioners need structured fluid replacement before, during, and after physical output to avoid performance drops and fatigue. When training through back-to-back rounds or heavy bag sessions in Texas summer heat, aim for small, consistent sips every 15 to 20 minutes rather than chugging water right before stepping onto the mat.
We keep our hydration stations prepped and our fight floor climate-controlled so you can push your conditioning limits safely every single workout.
